1. please tell us something about yourself
- Hi there, I've been read your blog, glad to knew you.
Actually I'm not really good in English, so sorry for that.
But I've tried my best, so here's the answers.
My name is Sarah Rachelea Damaningpuri, that's a long-fullname, I know hehe.
Just call me "Sar".
I live in a small town called Cimahi which not really far from Bandung City.
2. do you have a band?
- Yes, I have several band.
I've been listening to The Oppressed, Vice Squad, Cock Sparrer, The Bussiness and Warzone since 1997.
Since that time, I'm very interested in culture, roots, philosophy, variety of music and even Punk n Skin lifestyle until now.
About rebels (in a good way, of course), do it yourself, positive mental attitude, unity, solidarity, equality, hard worker, I think that's totally awesome positive youth movement.
That's one of the reasons why I want to form a Punk n Skin band, which will I use as a media to voice my enthusiasm and ideas in scene and music.
One of my female Punk n Skin band; V.I.R.G.I.N OI! has been formed since 2002.
It's my first project with several female friends who are skinheads.
And yes, we brought the gender issue. Well, I'm not trying to be a feminist.
I just wanted to express all of my feelings, thoughts, perspectives, desire and strength as a girl in band with honest through music.
Hopefully my band can show and prove women's strength and their capabilities.
V.I.R.G.I.N OI! was joined in the Compilation of Oi! Live Forever which was released by Prapatan Rebel in 2003.
Now we are preparing our first album.
3. are you a skinhead?
- No, I'm not. I'm just a person who love roots, culture and attitude of Punk n Skin.
Let's say I'm just a "boot girl" cause I always wearing my boots.
Or maybe "herberts". You know, person who love the Oi! but not the Skinheads or Punks.
I'm not drink, smoke or use drugs, but I'm not a Straight Edge.
I'm just ordinary person who love the culture. That's it.
4. what do you think about the Indonesia skinhead scene in general and Bandung city skinheads especially?
- In my humble opinion, overall they've got a lot of progress. Especially in Bandung.
Apparently, they have been imitating and adapting the idea of capitalism marketing in a good way.
I mean, there's a lot of bands that finally achieved what they want without going through the mainstream label.
There are too many local zines published in every where and every time in Bandung.
Many scenester and communities from different background organize gigs.
Both of oldskool and newskool, all come together and participate in organizing the show.
Yeah! We're getting rich with diversity.
Slowly but sure, they're becoming stronger and larger than before.
5. do you have any contact with your friends in other cities or in other countries?
- Yup, I've got several links almost in every city in Indonesia.
And the others come from other countries like Malaysia, Japan and USA.
I prefered to use social networks like Myspace and Facebook to connect with them.
6. who is your favorite band(local and international)and what band would you be really interested in going to see their show?
- I have many favorite bands. One of them is KEEP ON, skinhead girls band who came from Depok.
I also like HAIRCUTS from Bandung.
Too many bands that i would like to see. Especially band with female personnel.
But I would be greatfully to see Hatebreed and Throwdown.
7. what do you think about the existence of magazines in your city? Are they growing up? Or do you not like reading magazines?
- Like I said before, they've got a lot of progress.
There are too many local zines published in every where and every time in Bandung.
Along with the growing community, it causes becomes more and more.
I like to read them a lot.
Call it Suave, Ripple, Clique, Made in Bandung, Deathrockstar, Threefold, Sixty Degree, Formagz, Minor Bacaan Kecil, Blah Bloh and many more!
8. do you have a comment for this webculturezine?
- I think that's really positive. You're doing good. So, keep up the good work. Write an interesting discussion about the movement of scenes that are informative and educative in Indonesian territory.
Don't forget to always show the positive side of the scene.
This is especially useful for regeneration to our successors.
